This fair trade shopping tote is striking and durable. It has a round bottom with an ark-shaped top, and two round, upright goat skin handles. This beautiful handwoven Bolga basket is approximately 19" end to end, 10" wide, and 11" deep in the middle/13" deep on the ends (not including the handles). It is often used as a shopping tote or for storing newspapers, magazines, yarn, and other household items.
The price shown is for an individual basket. We will ship the exact, unique basket that you see in the image. Only one is available.
To clean or re-shape your Bolga basket, simply wet it with cool water, clean and shape it as needed (use mild soap only and avoid wetting the leather), and allow it to air dry. You should wet the basket about once a year to hydrate the straw and keep it supple.
This basket was made in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana, in West Africa. Its shape helps prevent objects from falling out, and its wide, round bottom gives it a large capacity.
