Product Description

  • Diameter: 8"-9"
  • Depth: Approximately 5", Excluding Handle
  • Color and Pattern: Natural/No Dye
  • Country of Origin: Ghana

This mini Bolga market basket contains no dye, so it is the natural fawn color of the straw.  It is round with a single leather handle and excels as a child's basket or gift basket.  It is 8"-9" in diameter and about 5" deep, excluding the handle.  Each one comes with a hang tag with information about fair trade Bolga baskets as well as care instructions.  Because each basket is handwoven and there are subtle variations in the color of the straw, the basket you receive may vary slightly from the image shown here.  The price shown is for a single basket.

To clean or re-shape a Bolga basket, simply wet it with cool water, clean and shape it as needed by hand, and allow it to air dry.  You should wet the basket about once a year to hydrate the straw and keep it supple.

Our Bolga baskets are all fair trade and are produced using traditional, sustainable methods.  They are handcrafted in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana, in West Africa, where they provide an important source of revenue for local villagers.

Please note that when multiple Bolga market baskets are ordered we may on occasion flatten them in order to minimize the number of parcels being shipped.  If this happens, simply wet the baskets when you receive them, shape them, and allow them to air dry.

About the brand: African Market Baskets is a small business located in Boulder, Colorado that works closely with weavers to ensure fair conditions and wages, as well as high quality products. It is a member of the Fair Trade Federation and Green America, and donates 10% of its profit to Every Basket Helps, a non-profit working to alleviate poverty in northern Ghana.
