Please note that although the yurt is always white, the embroidered colors and pattern vary and may not exactly match what you see in the image. This yurt ornament was handmade in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan by a cooperative called "Kork, Fiber Arts Group" which is dedicated to finding markets for local artisans while preserving traditional Kyrgyz craftsmanship.
About the brand: Silk Road Bazaar is a Fair Trade Federation member founded by a former Peace Corp volunteer who worked in Kyrgyzstan. In 2012 Silk Road began partnering with Kork Fiber Art Group, which was founded in 1996 in Karakol by Gulnara Kyrdyrmyshova. At that time many artists faced unemployment and required a place to express their talents. Kydyrmyshova recognized this and organized Kork to provide local artists with an outlet to sell their works. The subsequent alliance with Silk Road Bazaar has allowed Kork's products to be sold around the world.
