This beautiful fair trade trivet is handwoven from natural grasses and strips of banana palm fiber. It is approximately 11" in diameter and 1/4" thick. The palm fiber is sand colored, forming a subtle contrast to the natural grass fiber. It is produced by WomenCraft, a cooperative of artisans in rural Tanzania.
About the producers: WomenCraft is a non-profit organization that operates in Ngara, Tanzania, producing baskets, trivets, and other décor items from natural fibers and fabrics indigenous to East Africa. It began as a small pilot project of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 2004, and is now a thriving enterprise that employs over 300 women and exports products around the world. It is a member of the World Fair Trade Organization.
